The Career Resource Center
Purpose
and Mission
The Career Resource Center’s Mission: To support students and alumni as they make life-long career decisions and pursue meaningful work, while promoting environmentally and socially responsible careers.
The Career Resource Center, affectionately known as the “CRC” on
campus, contains a wealth of resources and services to guide
and prepare students for professional career opportunities during
their college years and upon graduation. The CRC is just one
of the many student services Sterling College provides its students
in preparation for life-long careers as a stewards of the environment.
These services are always available to alumni.
The CRC provides
students with the training, resources, and coaching necessary
for life-long career management:
- First-year students learn self-assessment,
job search skills, and acquisition skills as they search for
environmentally-oriented internships that meets their individual
learning objectives.
- Second-year students experience
on-the-job training during their internships. Upon returning
to campus, students acquire professional
presentation skills as they actively reflect on their working
experiences.
- Seniors participate in reflective
Senior Exit Interviews and are then offered a
variety of workshops and individual services
for implementing post-graduation objectives.
- This process experientially teaches
our students the skills and personal exploration techniques they
need to make decisions throughout
their careers.
Location: The CRC is on the second floor of Dunbar
Hall, conveniently located above the Dining Hall. The CRC houses
the Career
Library,
the Internship Program, a Computer
Lab, and the Work Program.
Staff: Working with students individually, as well as in the classroom,
the CRC staff provides instruction and resources for obtaining
internships, summer
and permanent jobs, and further education. The staff creates
an atmosphere that inspires professionalism, optimism, and creativity,
and engages students in career exploration in one-on-one settings. The center is staffed by the
Director, Jennifer Payne, and Sydney Flowers '01 , the Assistant Director. Please feel free to contact them with any questions.
