Recommendation 1:  To reduce waste in known areas.

 

Activity 1:  Place scrap paper boxes by all copiers and printers (where they aren’t already)

 

Activity 2:  To make aesthetically pleasing signage for copiers and printers on how to properly use scrap paper

 

Activity 3:  To change the “Standards for Written Work” in the Sterling College student handbook to .75” margins and then change the default margins on all computers to .75”

 

Activity 4:  Program printers to automatically print double-sided.

 

Activity 5:  Request that Interlibrary Loan articles be printed double-sided.

 

Activity 6:  Give each student a Sterling College email address so that mass letters/memos could be emailed instead of printed and put in mailboxes. (between 11/18 and 12/1/04, 3 letters were given to all students)

Recommendation 2: To vigorously educate the Sterling community about reducing waste, reusing materials creatively, and recycling properly

1. Clean Out Your Closet Swap and Move-out collections happen regularly.

Recommendation 3:  To work with any other groups that rent the campus on waste reduction.

 

Activity 1: Include a statement in the rental agreement that renters/participants must compost and recycle by either including that in their chores and/or covering the costs of hiring someone to do it for them.
