Visit Sterling College
We are not like any school in the country. Which is why you need to visit.
Eat a radish fresh from the garden. Tour our forest and sugar bush. Sit in on an Ecology class held in our very own Cedar Swamp. A trip to Sterling College in Craftsbury, Vermont will revolutionize your ideas about what college can be.
Individual, environmentally focused, and fiercely non-sedentary, Sterling College is the antithesis of the typical centralized feeding operation that characterizes much of American higher education today.
How do you know we’re authentic? Come see for yourself.
Take a Video Tour!
Join Tim Patterson, Former Dean of Admission & Financial Aid, for a video tour of campus.
Sterling College holds regular Open Houses for prospective students.
During a typical Open House, you will spend an entire day on campus, dining in Dunbar Hall, touring campus, meeting with students, learning about our environmentally focused academics, and getting questions answered about admissions and financial aid.
You’ll even attend a reception with Sterling’s president in his on-campus home.
Individual Campus Visit
A Sterling College campus trip is part farm visit, part ecotourism, and part college visit rolled into one.
We promise, your trip to Sterling College will be the most epic campus visit you make.
We have one of the most beautiful, awe-inspiring campuses in the country. It’s not about the buildings, but rather the mountains that blaze crimson in autumn, our sheep that lamb in the spring, and the woods we explore on snowshoes. We are a campus, farm, dairy, woodlot, forest, and all-around amazing place.
We will tailor your campus visit to your interests. Want to learn about Draft Animal Management, organic gardening, ornithology, or ropes courses? We’ll not only show you what we’ve got, we’ll also make it possible for you to sit in on a class.
(Tip: Schedule your campus visit during a weekday when classes are in session. This will give you the best sense of what Sterling is like on a typical day.)
The food. Seriously, we have the healthiest, best-tasting, most sustainably produced food on a college campus in America. Think whole-grain French toast topped with locally produced whipped cream and Sterling’s own maple syrup. Be sure to stay for a meal. Lunch is on us.
Craftsbury Common, Vermont. Like Brigadoon, this idyllic, picture-postcard New England village is a walkable, friendly community of white-clapboard houses, local farms, and dairies. We are also home to the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, offering rowing, Nordic skiing, biking, running, and boating.
